We highly recommend starting your adventure by taking a scenic harbour cruise to our base in beautiful Days Bay.

From Days Bay you can jump on your bikes and create a loop via the extension tracks (getting more of a sense of completion, and avoiding the cost of shuttles), or finish at the official end-point at Orongorongo, and take our shuttle back home (recommended if strong northerlies).

Alternatively, we can meet you with your bikes at Petone Wharf, or drop them to you at your accommodation the night before your ride.

EQUIPMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

Note these recommendations are based on riders completing the whole Rimutaka Cycle Trail (or the loop) and thus are set to cover the most demanding situations; for section by section breakdowns please see the detailed trail info.

Bike use a reliable mountain bike or hybrid bike in good condition, with front suspension. 
Tyres use tyres that are at least 2.0" wide, with at least a combination road/off-road tread (but ideally off-road), and always take a pump and a spare tube so that you can vary the tyre pressure to suit the conditions, and be covered in case of puncture. 
Clothing dress to the conditions (usually shorts and tshirt with a jersey in reserve, though you may wish to take thermals as well), and always take a light jacket. Closed shoes recommended.
